Artist statement:

Much like the Japanese aesthetic of Wabi Sabi, my art reflects an internal resonance with the natural world and the unconditional acceptance of the beauty of all things, including their imperfections and impermanence.

My work delves in the process of intuition and liberating act of playful exploration. With the momentum and energy of improvisation, the work becomes a rhythmic vehicle of discovery, instilling a constant process with many challenges, ranging from the chaotic to the meditative. I aspire to more abstraction and simplicity! Playing with themes that I love, that resonate from my soul, from landscapes, botanicals, and still life, with an edge of obscuration keep me invested in the process.

Kathy Dumesnil has a BFA in Fine Art with a Major in Dance. Her background is in Contemporary Dance with a wealth of experience in Improvisation and Choreography. She is also a former seamstress, and worked with textiles in the art of slipcovering. These skills have informed her visual work with the dynamic experience of navigating through spacial planes, invested with colorful movement, emotional gesture, patterns, rhythms, shapes, line, and so on.
