Mama's Gun: The Choreography of Mothering While Black

Presented by The Power Coalition for Equity and Justice & Nyama Contemporary Dance Company

A mixture of concert dance, hip-hop theatre, and storytelling, Mama's Gun... explores the heart and physical labor of mothering from infancy to adulthood. The performance complicates the creative exploration by inserting the lens of mothers of unjustly slain Black and Brown youth, illuminating the experiences of Black mothers who've lost children to racial and other violence and discrimination. Mama's Gun is a unique performance experience, including two live DJs and a cast of 6 dancers. The production also includes moments containing strong language and discussions of racial violence.

All patrons, regardless of age, must have a ticket to attend performances. Please carefully consider whether a performance is appropriate for children before planning to attend.
This event is organized by an outside party. It is not part of official Manship Theatre programming. To book one of the Manship Theatre spaces for your next event, email events@manshiptheatre.org for details.
